Regional & Remote Programs

Regional Services

The Cora Barclay Centre’s Early Intervention and Student Services programs are available to all children who are deaf or hearing impaired, wherever they may live. The Cora Barclay Centre currently services families from the APY Lands, Eyre Peninsula, South East, Fleurieu Peninsula and other regional locations as far away as Tasmania.

The Program

The Cora Barclay Centre is able to deliver remote therapy services to families in their home or school environment via state of the art video conferencing technology. Weekly video conferencing sessions are conducted by the Centre’s Auditory-Verbal Therapists or Student Services Teachers of the Deaf. Supporting resources such as notes and education kits with appropriate aids (toys, games, books) are regularly sent to families.

The child’s therapist visits the family home at least once per year and more often if required, and families are supported by the Cora Barclay Centre to visit Adelaide at least once per year for face-to-face contact. Speech and language assessments are undertaken on these occasions.

Intensive Regional Program

Intensive face-to-face short course programs can be facilitated by the Centre, offering concentrated therapy support and access to the Centre’s regular group programs and other allied health professionals. Children in regional areas have been known to thrive after a week’s intensive access to the Cora Barclay Centre, with foundations established for future video conferencing sessions.

Hear in the City - Connecting Regional Families

The aim of Hear in the City is to bring families who receive remote services via state of the art video-conferencing, to meet face to face once a year and to join the Cora Barclay Centre team in learning, sharing and getting to know each other better. As well as providing families with information and knowledge, it is also an opportunity for fun and to meet other families. Long term friendships are often forged

The program also provides invaluable observation opportunities for the clinical team to informally assess the progress of the children in a natural and relaxed environment. The Cora Barclay Centre covers all transport, accommodation and out of pocket expenses to families attending the program.
