The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) is an individualised funding scheme which supports Australians with a disability. Through the early intervention component of the Scheme it aims to fund intensive, shorter term services that will significantly increase participants’ capacity to live and work independently in the community.
The NDIS is being rolled out in stages which commenced on 1 July 2013 with the establishment of a number of Trial Sites. South Australia was selected as one of these NDIS Trial Sites, dedicated to children aged 0 to 14 years.
In July 2016, the NDIS national rollout begain with the aim of providing access to the Scheme for children aged up to 14 years by December 2016 and continuing during 2017. Young people aged between 15 and 17 years will enter the scheme from 1 January 2017, based on where they live.
The Cora Barclay Centre is a registered NDIS Provider. NDIS Registered Number 4050000164.
Since its commencement, the Cora Barclay Centre has been actively involved in working with the National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA).
The Cora Barclay Centre enjoys a good working relationship with the NDIA and we look forward to strengthening the Scheme for Cora Barclay Centre children and their families and subsequently, for children who are deaf or hearing-impaired throughout Australia during the remaining South Australian trial.
Championing our Children
The introduction of the NDIS has presented a wonderful range of opportunities for the Cora Barclay Centre to be involved in system design and to advocate for children who are deaf or hearing impaired, and their families. Our goal is to ensure current and future generations of children who are hearing-impaired have improved access to the services and technology they require to achieve speech and language levels that are comparable to children of the same age with normal hearing. The outcome for our children is participation in mainstream schooling, and increased opportunities for higher education, employment and lifelong social and economic independence.
